Anapanasati Meditation

What is Anapanasati Meditation?’

Ana’ means ‘In-Breath

Apana’ means ‘Out-Breath

Sati’ means ‘Be With

The attention of the mind should constantly be on the normal, natural breath. The task on hand is effortful, joyful oneness with the breath.

No “mantra” to be chanted… No form of any ‘deity’ to be entertained in the mind… No hathayogic pranayama like ‘kumbhaka’, holding the breath should be attempted.

Process of Meditation

  • Hands should be clasped, interlocking all fingers

  • Cross your feet at the ankles.

  • Gently close your eyes

  • Direct your focus to the natural rhythm of your breathing.

Keep in mind that the cornerstone of an effective meditation session is being comfortable. Opt for a sitting arrangement that's both relaxing and natural for you. While sitting on the floor is a popular choice, it's not a prerequisite; a snug chair or any other cozy spot can serve the purpose just as well. The objective is to settle into a posture that facilitates undistracted inward concentration.​

  • When we engage in meditation, focusing on the breath, the mind tends to clear, creating a sense of emptiness.
